Licking Man Defends Home Against Invasion

Licking Defensive Shooting

The Texas County Sheriff’s Office announced an incident that occurred in Licking on the night of Wednesday, July 5th. According to Sheriff James Sigman, the shooting that occurred is being treated as a self-defense shooting.

On the night of the 5th, a 34-year-old Licking homeowner, whose name is not being released due to the ongoing investigation, defended himself with his gun. However, what we have learned from information released to the public is that a 28-year-old man had been attempting to break into the man’s home. He had been on the outside of the front door, pounding on the homeowner’s house while cursing at and challenging the man to an altercation.

After that, the incident turned from the mincing of words to the rubber meeting the road, as the 28-year-old began to break his way into the 34-year-old man’s home. After some struggle, the criminal eventually did break through the door. However, the homeowner was prepared with his handgun at his side. The homeowner aimed at the invader and fired one shot, striking the home invader in the abdomen.

Following this, the homeowner called emergency services who went to the home and picked up the injured invader. He was then taken to the hospital and was expected to make a full recovery.

As for the homeowner and the shooting investigation, the Texas County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene to investigate further. At that point, the officers believed that the shooting was justified. According to James Sigman “After investigating the scene and questioning witnesses, it was determined that this shooting was an act of self-defense.”
